Well, there certainly are a lot of different ways a Chapter DSK recipient is
selected. I'll add the way my Chapter (Epsilon Zeta, Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute) does it. Basically, it's completely up to our Chapter President.
There are no nominations, no votes, etc...the President just decides whether
or not someone is deserving of one. This may sound controversial, and it
does put an enormous amount of trust in the President, but it works rather
well for us. The DSK is typically awarded at our officer installation
banquet in the first couple weeks of the semester. Sometimes one is given
out, sometimes two, sometimes none. I believe we've awarded 64 in the
nearly 52 years of the Chapter's history, and it'd be tough to argue against
any of them, given the records of those Brothers.

EZ also created an "Outstanding Leadership Award" several years ago, to
recognize those who have contributed greatly to the Chapter through their
Leadership. To date there are 9 recipients of that award. It's not a
junior DSK or consolation prize, however. The DSK is given to those who
have excelled in their commitment to Service, while the Leadership award is
given to those who have shown great Leadership. Not every recipient excels
in both areas.
