Brothers,
I must also speak out against bids as they seem to be indirect violation of
the open pledging called for by the Pledging Standards. Anyone should be
allowed to pledge. If bids are used they should not be required to join at
the Pledging ceremony, but should be used only to specifically invite the
potentials that your chapter most wants. The vote at the end of Pledging is
more critical in this situation. Remember what the Continue vote is for.
If you feel a pledge is not ready to uphold the ideals of the Fraternity or
will simply vanish, continue their pledging for a semester or less.
Pledging is the time to get to know the new Brothers, if when you get to
know them you think they need more work, for goodness sake don't initiate
them, give them more time.
Just my two cents from dealing with 3 chapters/PGs.
