Brothers,
O.K. I think that we have established that we are all capible of
repeating ourselves at length. Simply put, moving nationals to the summer
is bound to interfer with classes at some university. Also, since most
chapters are not active then, it is hard for delegates from the chapter to
hear the view of the chapter on legislation that wasn't submitted before
summer break. (not that anyone would ever procrastinate in sending
anything in for convention) I have to say that missing "a day or two" of
class from some universities is no big deal(like here at UWM), but I've
been to schools were missing class once will leave you struggleing to
catch up for the rest of the term. I thinkt that the convention should
remain between Christmas and New Years, starting on the 27th, but
extending it to the 31st. Most students are off, it allows even those on
the quarter system to leave in time to get back for the start of classes,
and ensures that those of us on the list have lots of e-mail to read on
cold winter nights. I don't feel that raod conditions are really a mgood
argument for when to hold a convention-you have have an accident any time.
I pledged at Epsilon Lambda(norther Upper Penninsulia of Michigan) were
we had tons of snow and icy roads-never had an accident. I drove to
Detroit last August to see a brother and my car started on fire! As for
people getting time off, I think that preplanning is the biggest key
there. I do work in retail and we do have policies about getting time off
around Christmas, but since I planned to go to nationals in March (before
I started my job) I told my boss in July that I need the time off and I
got it. Now can we go abck to a topic that has a lot less e-mail and
argueing like the all male/co-ed issue?!?!?!
In L, F, and S,
Julianne
