Does anyone have the breakdown per category of actives and alumni that
attended the Minn. convention?

I have attended oodles of conferences through my various orgs...here are
some of the costs I have paid:

TRavel codes a - airline c - car
                                 Costs
Organization Scope Length of Convention Hotel Registration
Travel Date Attendees

Gamma Sigma Sigma Nationsls 4 days hotel+reg=$250 $300a
1st weekend in July 300 attendees

Circle K International 5 days $125 per room per night $80
driving - $250 airline $115 preregistration $135 at door 2nd weekend
in August 1800-2200

Campus Compact State 3 days $45 night $35 reg $25 driving late
March/early April 250-400

C.O.O.L. National 4 days $100 registration free campus
housing for preregistrants (limited) $60 driving late March 2000+

Phi Eta Sigma National 3 days $250 includes conference center
housing, reg and meals $40 driving (Indy) October 14-16 320

Golden Key National 4 days $295 (hotel + reg) $360 airfare
2nd week in August 1500 (??)

I agree with the statement that hotel costs are much lower during the
winter months. For the size of our conventions, we need a LOT of space
which not all hotels can provide. I think cost is more of a factor in
actives attending the convention than timing. Both of the times that I
arranged carpools for Delta Zeta chapter to go to Nationals, we had
8+actives in attendance. (driving time Boston 6 hours, Dallas 22 hours)
I don't think the chapter sent more than two delegates to Phoenix and no
one attended Minneapolis. In that case, I believe TRAVEL COSTS were more
important than WHEN the convention was held.

I attended two National Conventions in Boston, one for APO and one for
Circle K in THE SAME HOTEL...BOSTON PARK PLAZA...

Costs were
Circle K $105 registration car transportation $98/night hotel
APO $35 registration car transportation $40/night hotel

I believe that the holiday break timing of our nationals is the best time
for the convention and allow the greatest number of people to attend. The
best way to find out what works best would be to run a survey in the next
issue of the Torch and Trefoil and ask everyone what are the most
important factors for them in attending or not attending the National
Convention.
