Having seen this debate come up a few years agon, the reason for holding
the convention between Christmas and News Years is for many reasons.

1. The week between Christmas and New Years is the only week that all
schools have vacation. Since some schools are semesters while
others are on Tri-mesters, when school is in session usually varies
by they school. During the summer, different schools have different
summer sessions thus, a few schools would always be in session.

2. Students get summer jobs. When could you have the convention that
wouldn't interfer with summer internships/jobs and when no school was in
session.
