I will make my comments with regard to other issues concerning Legislative
Session later, but I will take issue with this now:
1. At the present time, the AAMD deadline is November 15. In 1996, there
was some discussion about moving the deadline to November 1, but it was soundly
defeated. In order for us to verify Voting Delegates, we must first make sure
they're Chapter have met the necessary Registration requirements on time (in
theory). It does make it difficult, and it does delay the notice with regard
to those Voting Delegates who are selected for Reference Committees, but there
is, as long as these standards and deadlines remain (and I don't see them
changing anytime soon), no way that this can change.
2. Not all schools are in session for Fall Semester/Quarter by September
1. We had this arguement in 1996 when we discussed moving up the AAMD
deadline. I do feel that enough time needs to be provided for Chapter Brothers
to meet together, once their school opens, to discuss any issues they may want
to write amendments about.
To summarize, you can't have Voting Delegates until your Chapter is officially
considered to be in good standing with the National Office, so you can't
appoint anyone to committees until they are verified. Also, you need to allow
Chapters to meet in the Fall so they can discuss any matters they would like to
see changed at the National Convention.
I do agree, that are Legislative Session needs to see some changes. However,
while I do agree with the intentions of this possibility, I do not feel that it
is feasible at this time.
