Service or fellowship, that is the question.
How does one categorize a chapter's participation in activities such
as marching (as an organization)in the Homecoming Parade and other
related festivities (including nominations for the Court), participation
in school pep rallies, and other such activities involving all student
organizations? Tomorrow, my chapter will be among many student
organizations participating in the dedication of our school's new
basketball arena.
The fellowship aspects are obvious. But these events are also in
the name of "school spirit," ie., to come out in support for our school.
Furthermore, the chapter often does get the visibility and free
advertising out of these events.
How do other chapters treat participation in these activities?
Should we give individual members the option of choosing how these
projects should count toward their requirements?
LFS,
Phil Dore
