I think the points that brother Schroeder has brought up about
considerations for the 2000 National Convention are very valid. I also
believe that presenting possible local attractions is appropriate. As a
delegate and member of the Chapter Ops committee in Dallas, I admit that I
spent the vast majority of my time in committee and on the floor (or so I
am told. lack of sleep those days has blurred my memory), but I also
really appreciated having the ability to go out and visit Dallas and go to
a local Honkey Taunk (I am sure I am spelling that wrong).
I was a non-voting delegate to the National convention in Phoenix.
I was heavily concerned about a number of issues being discussed and
remembering what it was like to be a voting delegate tried to make myself
available for erons for those on the floor. Despite this, I had
exponentially more time to go explore the local attractions.
One of the issues that I do not think has been discussed is food.
Even voting delegates have to eat. Being a college student usually means
not having much money, and as those of you that have stayed in hotels can
attest that eating in a hotel can be mightily expensive. I think one of
the largest complaints about Phoenix was that it did not have food
establishments open during the normal feeding hours of college students
(8PM-1AM). I am not sure what will be awaiting us in Minneapolis (I plan
to bring my own food. I can live off of peanut butter and jelly for a few
days). Although I go to school in DC, I am not too aware what late night
food establishments are available in the areas they propose. I am like
wise ignorant of Pittsburgh's arrangements. I do know that Philly has tons
of 24 hour diners and other places to eat that delegates, who might have
only 20 or so minutes to scarf down some food, will not feel forced to pay
the $15 for a hamburger that the hotel will be charging.
I look forward to seeing all the presentations in Minneapolis!
