That is not so common.  For most people sightseeing will be on the 27th
and on the 31st.  One problem in Phoenix was that stuff wasn't open on
New Year's Eve... so many of us spent a lot of the day sitting around and
wishing we'd gone to the Grand Canyon.  I can assure you that if the
conference is in DC that won't happen! :)

Actually the bid teams don't do any planning for the conference.  They can
come up with cool ideas and pass them on to the conference committee...
but remember the hotel isn't chosen until February, and the committee
won't get really cranked up until next fall.  So if we tell you something
now about the conference in 2000, odds are it will change!

In other words - all we can talk about is location! :)
