Look Who's Coming to Philadelphia ...
                                      Mickey Mouse and Disney Quest!

PHILADELPHIA (December 9) - The Walt Disney Co. officially announced
today that it is bringing a high-tech entertainment center to downtown
Philadelphia. DisneyQuest, scheduled to open in the summer of 2000 at
Eighth and Market Streets, is intended to attract about a million
visitors a year by recreating the Disney experience with virtual reality
and computer animation, Disney officials said at news conference in the
city.
It also will serve as the anchor of a $150 million development
project that officials hope will pump up the city's tourism and
entertainment industries. The five-story, block-long Disney project in
also will include a 20-screen movie theater, a health club, a
1,200-spot garage and about 400,000 square feet of additional retail
space.
The Philadelphia DisneyQuest will be located within a few blocks of the
city's convention center in addition to the Liberty Bell and Independence
Hall. City officials initially asked Disney to consider Penn's Landing on
the banks of theDelaware River, but company officials wanted to be closer
to the city's historical attractions.
         Art Levitt, president of Disney
Regional Entertainment, described Philadelphia as "an incredible tourist
destination
and a burgeoning entertainment area. "We really wanted to showcase our
product here," Levitt said. Mayor Rendell, who visited the Orlando
DisneyQuest, was impressed with what he saw. "The biggest surprise is
the fun I had as an adult and the range of experiences available," he
said.
Disney opened its first DisneyQuest in Orlando last
summer, and will debut a
second entertainment center in Chicago next year. The company plans to
open additional DisneyQuest centers in 20 to 30 domestic and
international markets.

National Convention in the year 2000! See ya in Minneapolis!
