PROGRAM NAME
Mickey Leland Hunger Fellows Program
DESCRIPTION
The Mickey Leland Hunger Fellows Program seeks applicants to participate
in the
fifth year of this unique leadership development program. Leland Fellows spend
six months gaining community service experience with grassroots hunger relief
organizations followed by six month placements with national anti-hunger
and poverty organizations in Washington, DC. The program cultivates
Fellows's professional skills
and provides them with the necessary knowledge of hunger and poverty to
be effective
leaders in the fight against hunger. The Leland Fellows program is a
joint project of
the Congressional Center and AmeriCorps VISTA.
FIELDS

TARGETED GROUPS
Potential participants who may want to work in an anti-hunger leadership
development
program.
AWARD
Twenty Fellows each year receive a monthly stipend that averages $8,000
per year
and receive a $4,750 educational award upon completion of their year of
service.
The program runs from August 1999 to August 2000.
