Self contained groups meaning that people who want to be together
will room together. Most conventions have a hospitality room where
people congrete to socialize and sleeping rooms are used mainly for
sleeping. That is what the hotel is planning for with a convention.
Hotel lobbies can used be for talking at all hours of the night.. I
remember watching the sunrise from one of the lobbies in Dallas and
playing cards in the dead of the night in the atrium in Phoenix.

Try to look at the hotel's perspective. New Year's Eve is one of
the biggest night of revenue for the hotel... that is why they only allow
a limited number of rooms on New Years Eve... traditionally in the
contract this has been only 250 sleeping rooms which are snapped up by
those who make their reservations multiple (5+) months in advance.
Brothers are coming specifically for the convention... they can arrive
early and stay late IF they plan ahead.
The security on New Years Eve is for your safety as well. The
Hyatt has held a large live music celebration bash for several years in
the tradeshow area and ballrooms of the hotel. Thousands of people who
are not staying in the hotel will be down in the banquet area of the
hotel who should not be roaming up in the guest quarters.. thus the
restriction on who is allowed to enter and leave the guest floors on New
Year's Eve. It is safer for those who are staying at the hotel.
>Any thoughts?
Those are my thoughts.. it's really not that bad. Take it with a
grain of salt and just enjoy the convention :)
