Not to get into Greek-bashing at all... for my chapter becoming part of
IFC would be a Very Bad Thing.
Aside from IFC rush rules, which I would prefer not to be constrained by,
there is the issue of membership. Being part of the Greek system would
mean that we can't have social Greeks in the chapter. Since about half of
AXi is social Greek (including our President) that would be a huge loss.
More to the point, I think that one of the advantages of APO is that we
can have members in all living groups (on-campus, Greek, off-campus).
Having a house would change that. Greek students could not join without
giving up membership in their current fraternity/sorority. Anyone who did
not move into the house would be excluded from the group, to some extent.
Benefits: minimal
Costs: unacceptable
I just don't see how this is a good idea.
