LIVE MUSIC (these are places I normally go to, sorry country fans!)
FIRST AVENUE - The premiere live music club in the Cities. Live music
everynight on at least one of its two stages (main room and 7th St. entry)
Mostly alternative bands play here. Here's an example (i used to bounce
there) Juliana Hatfield, Liz Phair, everclear, Our Lady Peace, Ben Harper,
Hum, Goo Goo Dolls, PJ Harvey, Violent Femmes, fuel, Face to Face, Less Than
Jake, Limp Bizkit. So a little bit of everything from mellow alternative to
hardcore alternative. Also has numerous bars and pool tables. Located
downtown Minneapolis by the Target Center
400 BAR - More local live music. Some of the guys from Soul Asylum often DJ
down there. bar, so stage is small and always good standing room for shows.
Semisonic, Freedy Johnston, Golden Smog, Fastball have played there. Its down
by the U of M so its a college atmosphere.
FINE LINE - Almost nightly for live music. Often has more obscure artist,
like Ron Sexsmith, Tracy Chapman, and lots of local bands. Also downtown
Minneapolis by the Target Center. Owned and operated by Frist Avenue.
GROUND ZERO - Gaining ground on 1st Ave. Line up lately has included, Less
Than Jake, Local H, SuperJesus, King's X, Sunny Day Real Estate, and All.
Also over by the U of M campus.
THE QUEST - Normally your Rap/Hip Hop dance club, but often has been having
alternative/metal bands come in to grab more money. Lately on their schedule
was Candlebox, Brother Cane, Sevendust, Deftones and Cherry Poppin' Daddies.
Used to be known as Grand Slam, Prince's old nightclub. very unique club, has
two levels where you can see the bands. Downtown Minneapolis by the Target
Center
Those are the five main spots for all of you alternative fans out there.
