I posted something like this last time around, and I think it applies once
more...

It is certainly a good question to ask whether there is a legitimate need
to go entirely coed. But I find it difficult to understand why we are
talking about a *promise* we made to the all-male chapters. (Supposing
that a promise was made; all I know that we did was pass the resolution
Bill Rugh posted.) WE did not make that promise, or at least not the vast
majority of us - the delegates at the 1976 convention did. We may choose
to uphold their decision; but if we don't, we are in no way breaking OUR
word. APO is a students' organization; our leadership and membership
changes continuously. We cannot as a collective make an everlasting
promise. We can only try to do what is right, and hope that in trying
likewise future brothers may come to the same decisions. To base our
honor on upholding an agreement made 20 years ago by an entirely different
group of people is bordering on the ridiculous.
