No! We made a bond, and we have to live with it. The woman I love is a brother,
duly pledged, and I believe in the strength of co-ed chapters. However, we agreed
to let all-male chapters live, if they so chose. The passage of time does not
change that bond, and I am loath to believe that a decision we left to chapters
can be reversed by a national fiat. That's wrong. If we are to be responsilbe at a
chapter level for decisions, we cannot allow our nationals to make that decision.
Think of it: What if a sacred tradition in your chapter was thereatened by a
national convention decision? No, I am not allowing for hazing or anything
similar, but I think its time that we left to the chapters certain decisions
regarding a principle we agreed upon long ago.
I believe in co-ed chapters, but I do not believe going back on our word from 1976
will solve anything, and may harm such excellent chapters as Delta. They are proud
of who they are, their bond is all-male, and while our chpater has benefitted from
the inclusion of women, certainly, I am not sure if our forcing inclusion in those
chapters protected by 1976 will foster better brotherhood. In fact, the only thing
I am convinced it fosters is another victory for the PC Police, who would damn
everything in the name of their version of tolerance.
