VOS on an RT:
Last night I renamed the volume "user.news" in the cell sipb.mit.edu
to the name "user.amsnews", and changed the mount point appropriately.
I also renamed "user.news.backup" to "user.amsnews.backup". Someone
then started using the .../user/amsnews volume immediately, and was
successful for about an hour. At that point the volume appeared to
"disappear" out from under him. Further investigation showed that in
fact the volume had magically deleted itself, both from the partition
and the VLDB. The backup volume was on the partition, but didn't have
an entry in the VLDB, and so had to be referenced by VolID. Doing a
syncvldb on the partition didn't help matters. I eventually had to
destroy the volumes and create them from scratch. I would say it's
safe to say that the "vos rename" command should be avoided at all
costs...
