AFS 3.1b has been built and tested on the rel-eng cell. It has also
been installed on the SIPB cell (I had previously been talking about
this with marc). The old software is in /usr/afs/bin.31a, if there are
any problems.
Some of the things that this version does:
o The restart of bosserver does not cause it to die as often on the
RISC/6000 (it still isn't perfect, but it is MUCH better).
o Salvaging a single volume is once again possible.
o vfsck now logs to /etc/vfsck.log (as it used to a long time ago).
o The RISC/6000 fileserver now returns 69 as the over-quota errno.
RISC/6000 clients still have problems with most servers, but this
will be addressed in a future release (the fix is known).
o Various security concerns have been addressed.
- Readonly volumes not being truly readonly.
- Directory owners had implicit privileges, which could be exploited
in project volumes. (Volume owners retain their privileges.)
