I could be wrong, but I'd suspect that if you can vos backup the
failed directories by hand, then the problem was timing. You
would want to take this step before dumping the backed up
volumes to tape. Other than that, I don't know why this would
happen.
Doesn't the do_backup script (the first step of the backup process) do
the backup of the volumes? All of the backups are done before the
dump to tape, I believe.
