The problems you are having with subdirs is probably related to a lack
of authentication to the fileserver. system:anyuser (i.e. anybody in
the world) has access to read and look at files in your top-level
homedir, but only simsong (i.e. authenticated user 'simsong' in the SIPB
protection database) has access to the subdirectories.
