I'd like to schedule an outage for the 3.3a upgrade on Sunday
night/Monday morning. I'll schedule an hour for the outage in case
there are problems, but the outage shouldn't take significantly longer
than it does to restart the fileservers.
The procedure I have in mind is:
* Back up all of /usr/afs and /etc/fsck
* Copy 3.3a binaries into place
* Shut down the cell
* Run vldb_convert to convert the vldb databases
* Restart the cell
I plan to get the binaries from
/mit/opssrc/afs.new/pmax_ul4/dest/root.server. This includes the
8-bit-clean salvager, which has been tested by Athena and is scheduled
to go into full production this weekend.
I'll send mail late tonight scheduling the outage if there aren't any
objections.
Since we have the new enclosure for the replacement Micropolis drive
(it arrived today), this upgrade will allow us to deploy the third
fileserver as soon as we get it from ops.
