I now have all of the pieces necessary to upgrade sipb-ether to a spluftier
(tm) net work.
I would like to schedule a time to do this for next week. It can be done in
two ways (with grey areas in between)
1) The repeater is swapped in (after all the cables are run) and there is a
couple minute outage for machines while they are recabled from the DELNI to
AUI transceivers.
2) There is a longer outage while the UTP capable machines are rebooted to
take their networking via a direct UTP cable.
The middle ground is that some servers are rebooted and others live on
transcevers until they can be rebooted.
The various maintainers should agree on what should be done for their
machines. My preferece would be to get as many machines directly on UTP as
possible in one shot. (AFS Maintainers and Picayune people don't have
anything to decide since those are AUI only machines).
Note: regardless of when it is scheduled I will allow no more than 4 other
people in the machine room. I will bar the door if I have to. It should be
predecided who will be in 575a.
