The @sys convention is being changed by Transarc (the developers of AFS)
to be consistent across the various platforms. If you have used the
@sys notation and rely upon it, read on. If you do not know what I am
referring to, you are most likely not going to be affected.

The new @sys names will be of the form:

	<hardware>_<os><version>

The new values will be in the Athena 7.0 release (so that we are
standard with the rest of the AFS community -- other sites will be
changing their @sys values, also).

The new @sys values for Athena's supported architectures are:

	rt_aos4
	vax_bsd43
	pmax_ul3

I would strongly urge that everyone make the appropriate changes to any
files/directories they maintain that rely on @sys. For the most part,
this will simply entail making a symbolic link, so that both versions of
@sys will access the same data. The following are the various release
dates for the Athena 7.0 release, so that you know how much time you
have:

	May 7	Friendly test.
	May 23	Staff test.
	June 20	Final release.

This @sys discussion has been underway for quite some time, and it is
only now that Transarc has given an official list of what they expect
people to adhere to (many sites have been requesting some
standardization of the @sys values and were involved in the final
discussion as to Transarc's recommended values).

A full list of all supported/recommended @sys values has been enclosed.
(The difference between "supported" and "recommended" is whether
Transarc supports their product on a given platform).

The following are Transarc supported values for @sys:

    rt_aos4 IBM-RT/PC, AOS Release 4
    rt_aix221	IBM-RT/PC, AIX 2.2.1
    vax_ul3 Vax, Ultrix 3.0, 3.1
    pmax_ul3	Mips, Ultrix 3.1
    sun3_35 Sun3, Sun OS 3.5
    sun3_40 Sun 3 (68020), Sun OS 4.0.3
    sun3x_40	Sun 3 (68030), Sun OS 4.0.3
    sun4_40 Sun 4, Sun OS 4.0.3
    sun4c_40	Sun Sparcstation 1, Sun OS 4.0.3c

The following are Transarc recommended values for @sys:

    rt_machXX	IBM-RT/PC, Mach/4.3BSD version XX
    rs_aix31	IBM-RS6000, AIX 3.1
    vax_bsd43	VAX, BSD 4.3
vax_machXX	DEC Vax nnn and/or MicroVax nnn, Mach/4.3BSD version XX
