One of the scripts used for AFS backups currently includes:
PATH=/bin:/usr/ucb:/usr/bin:/afs/sipb/project/gnu/bin:...
... ggrep -v '\.nb ' | gegrep -v '^disk\.' ...
It's been suggested that /afs/sipb/project/gnu/bin is not stable and
perhaps not secure in that there is someone who isn't a SIPB member or
prospective who has write access there. Would it be better to install
(probably just the decmips version of) the ggrep/gegrep binary in
/afs/sipb/service, which gives only system:administrators write
access? Perhaps we could even ftp the FSF distribution to ronald-ann
and rebuild it there, to help ensure that we have a reliable version?
