Well, I came into the office to attempt to move the tape drive
from rosebud to to case where the current exabyte is. Well, I
opened the case first, thinking to have a place to put the drive
from rosebud.
Well, after being attacked by several dust elephants (don't worry, I
survived), I cleaned up the drive (boy was it bad!) and decided to
give it a whirl. I ran a cleaning tape, and then I tried to dd onto
a blank tape. The dd failed after about 69 Meg (just under 5000 16k
blocks).
So, this tape is scrod. However, I did not remove the drive from
rosebud. Before I do: does anyone know a) what our service contract
says about that, and b) will it work with standard SCSI?
Before anyone answers this, I reiterate my motion to just buy a new
drive. At this point, I do not think it is worth playing around.
The backups are waiting..
