rosebud inetd broken? (also, afs backup)

The following commands aren't working to access rosebud:
rlogin rosebud -l root
rlogin rosebud -l root -x
rsh rosebud -l root /bin/ls
The last one, at least, seems like a new problem. Rosebud otherwise
seems ok, the afs processes are running, and the afs backup finished
successfully (of ronald-ann also).
Is there any way to get a (possibly) useful coredump from rosebud's
/etc/athena/inetd process? (both it and /etc/inetd are running:
root 4650 0.0 0.0 148 8 - S Jul 23 0:00 /etc/inetd
root 12015 0.0 0.0 104 8 - S Jul 23 0:01 /etc/athena/inetd
)
