                      MURDER INTERRUPTS CIRCUS

Most of the time, when a magician makes a young lady disappear, she
reappears soon thereafter. But this evening, after Richard the Amazing
vanished Miss Angelique Blanc from a trick box, she was discovered dead
below the stage. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Elliot, who
stated that she had been shot twice and then been finished off.

The death was discovered when Richard (whose last name is not known to this
reporter) staggered back into the theater by a side door and collapsed
unconscious. It seemed that he had been strangled, although witnesses were
unable to agree on whether the wounds could have been self-inflicted.

When Richard revived, he babbled incoherently about a monkey. According to
one observer, he said, "You don't understand. It was my chain. It was in
my pocket." Later when out of his seeming shock, he claimed to have been
attacked from behind while going to retrieve Miss Blanc from the floor level
below the stage. It is not known whether Richard was charged with the
murder.

                 MAJOR BREAK IN COUNTERFEITING CASE

New Orleans police have made a major breakthrough on a case involving
counterfeit currency. Sources in the police department say that at least
two men have been charged with counterfeiting, and more arrests are
expected soon.

Some time ago, a number of currency-printing plates were stolen from a
federal mint. Sources refused to comment on whether the plates had actually
been recovered yet, but it is certain that the persons responsible have
been identified.

While Federal agents in town have reputedly been searching for the
counterfeiters, this bust was made entirely by the New Orleans police
department. Perhaps this will demonstrate the efficiency of our police
force, and help convince the Bureau of Investigations that New Orleans is
quite capable of solving its own problems.

                   SOCIALIST CANDIDATE TAKES A STAND

Socialist candidate for John Sudbury's senate seat Lark Xarm made known his
position on several key issues today. He opposes the imposition of Jim Crow
laws. He favors higher taxes on agriculture and industry, with the proceeds
to be used to improve public schools "to help America grow and prosper." He
oppposes military action in the Gulf of Mexico in response to recent raids
on shipping there. "Negotiation is a better tool than a fight," he said. He
favors a repeal of laws against alcoholc purchase. Finally, he favors
American entry into the League of Nations, and independence for many
American territories. "If democracy is good enough for us," said Xarm,
"then it's good enough for the world."
