Delay in starting the threads.

Hi,
I'm using the pthreads-1_60_beta6 on FreeBSD. 2.2.
I have written an application in which I create around 200 threads.
The thread creation is fine, but initially only the main thread runs. It takes
a while for the child threads to get started, around nearly a minute.
After it enters the child thread atleast once, the switching between the
main thread and the child threads is fast.
I have not done any scheduling now. Is there any way by which I could improve
on these timings??
