pthreads is currently a user-space threads library only (and yes, this
means there are certain performance problems which pthreads won't
solve). When pthreads does support hybrid user-space/kernel-space
threads, it will rely on kernels to support the kernel-space threads,
rather than including its own support.
In other words, no, the kernel does not need to be rebuilt.
