Strange problem with pthreads port

I am trying to port pthreads-1.6beta3 to the ARM processor, running Acorn RISCiX,
which is based on BSD-4.3. Most stuff seems to work, but I have a problem with
stdio. Any attempt to read from the keyboard (say, from scanf) returns EOF. I
have traced this to the system call which reads the stuff, but cannot see why it
should not work. If I redirect stdin to come from a file all is OK. I have
found that the pthreads stdio and lower-level routines recognise that the input
is to come from the keyboard (isatty works), but my knowledge of low-level Unix
is a bit patchy, and I am stuck! Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how I
might go about fixing it?

Many thanks,
