(sorry, this is long :)

                A hymn for the staff and students of 21M011
        With lyrics by Prof. Martin Marks

Marks:          21M011's consummation
                Reaches its climax with this transformation.
                What an idea -- rewrite an old song!
                Corny? You bet, but at least it's not long!

Ruckert: Each Monday Martin Marks lectures and lectures
Ambush: And lectures and lectures and lectures and lectures
Ruckert: Oh well, at least he plays tape or CD --
Ambush: Or brings on performers and acts as emcee.

M & R: Pamela Ambush is our favorite diva,
                Her ravishing vocals are hard to believe-a:
                She brings so much of our music to life:
                From Purcell to Mozart, from Schoenberg to Reich!

A & R:          So too does David Deveau at the keyboard;
                Each time he plays, utter pleasure's our reward!
                Thanks for your solos and "accompaning"
Deveau (sprechstimme): You're welcome! I'd much rather sit here than sing!

A & M: Praise be due also to "Rajah" George Ruckert:
                On the sarod he's a masterful plucker;
                Likewise he plunks gospel piano with style;
Marks: And whether it's singing --
Ambush:         Or collating handouts --
Marks:          Or moving equipment --
M & A:          He's there with a smile!

M & A & R: Finest of all are the students before us
                What a great pleasure, to lead such a chorus!
                You make each class what it is, good or great,
                So please join in loudly as we consummate:

Everyone:       21M011, what a number!
                And what a HASS-D, where we listena and slumber!
                Comes the exam, we awake with a start
                Trying to tell all the pieces apart.

                Some people tell us we're "clapping for credit";
                (duh) our reply to them all is: "You said it!"
                Try clapping any good music in time
                And you'll discover the rhytm's sublime!

                (change to major)

                We've had a short and fast ride through much music
                From Bernart to Bach and from Haydn to Who's-It,
                Now the ride's ending, but one thing stays clear:
                Music gets better the more that we hear.

                Though the course is
                Almost over,
                We do not feel sad:
                We'll always remember our favorite tunes
                And all the good times we've had!

(David Deveau, George Ruckert and Pamela Ambush are recitation instructors
for the course)
