installation problems

Hello. I've been trying to install NetBSD for a friend, and I'm having
problems on the initial bootup. Specifically, the machine never gets
past "setting tty flags" and hangs. It has a 3c590; I followed
instructions and got the 1.1A kernel from
/mit/netbsd/dev/machine-specific/new-drivers. Would that have anything
to do with it?
