Hi,
I'm trying to install NetBSD 1.1 on a Pentium Pro (200, Dell)
machine that has a 3com 3c509b (Combo) ethernet card installed. It
currently has a thick (AUI) net connection that is known to work under
Windows NT (at IP address 128.52.39.111).
This machine is at the AI Lab, so isn't directly on Athena.
So, instead of installing the athena version, I'm using the standard
release and am following through the install document. I've created
the filesystem and am trying to get the rest of the distributions off
FTP; the first step is to configure the ethernet card via ifconfig.
I've tried several forms of the command given in the install
document. My best guess for the correct line is:

	ifconfig ep0 128.52.39.111 netmask 0xffffff00 link0

but this doesn't work; I get the error

	ifconfig: SIOCGIFFLAGS: Device not configured

I've tried several different forms of the command, and always I get
this error.

Do you have any idea of what's going wrong/what I can do to
continue the installation? (Or if not, where I can go for further
help?)

thanks!
