weird talk problem?

Hi all,
once again, sorry for all the questions, and thank you for all the quick
answers. OK, new mystery... when I do a talk request while logged in as
ericding, it sends the following:
Message from Talk_Daemon@hesed at 0:43 ...
talk: connection requested by root@HESED.MIT.EDU.
talk: respond with: talk root@HESED.MIT.EDU
Same goes if I try to talk someone at another host. Anyone else experience
this problem? (Responding as directed doesn't work)
