you probably don't need to install all over again (unless for some reason
you didn't complete the install or something).
if /dev/tty00 seems to not work, then first thing to do is look if
your mouse is indeed a serial mouse. First off, stop X from running,
and try the following (this can sometimes cause crashes, so be careful :-)
cat < /dev/tty00
(move the mouse around, click on a few buttons, and see if you get random
garbage on the screen. If you don't, then your mouse isn't being read).
If you think /dev/tty00 is wrong, you can try one of the other mouse
devices.
/dev/tty01 - for serial mice in com2
/dev/pms0 - for PS/2 mice
/dev/lms0 - for Logitech mice
/dev/mms0 - for Microsoft InPort mice
if none of those give you input, then I'm lost. if one does work, then
you probably need to use the appropriate protocol for it as well,
you should get a list when you run xf86config.
