manually upgrade to nbsd1.1?

Hi,
I have an 1.0A-athena box running, but the 1.1 kernel is very tempting.
Since binaries are compatible, all I wish to do is upgrade the kernel.
What does upgrading the kernel involve?
I've tried simply overwriting the 1.0 kernel, but AFS crashed and /dev
didn't have all the devices.
