You can use ctrl-alt-+ and -minus to switch video modes.

To specify which one you start up in, edit /etc/XF86Config and reverse
the modes on each Modes line (they should be near the end) to start
with the one you want.  Such lines should look like:

	Modes "1136x900" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
