Help with NE2000 Config

I was wondering about the parameters for an NE2000 card. When installing
a system, I specified "link" (w/o the default -link0 -link1) because there
was a problem with the network. It managed to install ok. However,
when it rebooted, it could not get on the net.
What does that parameter do? Where is it set? Any ideas as to what I
should do?
The card is set to use I/O 0x300h and IRQ 10.
