Problems with Xlogin with XF86_S3

I've been having problems with a friend's computer; namely the X-Windows
server. It appears that the X server dies after extended periods of time
and when my friend tries to log in she gets "cannot open DISPLAY:0.0" messages
on the console. I then have to log in a root on a text terminal (Ctrl-Alt-F1)
and kill the X server myself to get XLogin to reload the X server. Is this
a known problem with the XFree 86 S3 server? I don't see any mention of it
in the readme files, at least. The video card being used is a STB
Trio 64 PCI-bus card with 2megs of DRAM. System is a Gateway 2000 P5-133.
Network card is a 3COM Etherlink III, ISA, Triple-Media. Thanks in advance
for any help. I'd really appreciate it.

Edwin
