problem with ld.so

I was creating a new user as root on my box, and after having completed,
I tried to login as sdfranks and it does not login. I then attempted
to login on a virtual console and it said:
No ld.so
Warning: Unable to attach home directory.
NOTE -- Your home directory is temporary.
It will be deleted when this workstation deactivates.
Last login: Mon May 29 22:10:49 on ttyv0

No ld.so
And then it returns to the login prompt. I don't remember erasing
anything. Any ideas?
