"too many groups" error

Hi,
when I login to my NetBSD 1.0a box, I'm getting the following error in my
xconsole:
> xlogin: ericding is in too many groups, using first 16
and in my xterms
> xterm: ericding is in too many groups, using first 16
I seem to recall this was a problem for a little bit on Athena rel 7.6 (?),
but I'm not sure. Is this really a problem? Is there a fix?
