This would be a complete guess, but:
   there were problems using troff and nroff with netbsd
(something to do with the fact that it was groff or something),
which is why the previewer is actually ghostview instead of the
built in piece of junk athena normally uses. However, I
have no idea what sort of interactions this might cause.

is there a particular reason you are using troff commands instead
of using the "supported" line spacing method?
