Xlogin problems

All of a sudden my Xlogin has stopped working. I don't think I changed any
settings that would cause this. It has stopped responding and every 20
seconds or so it tries to start and exits saying something like
getty repeating too quickly on ttyv6, sleeping.
I noticed there is also an xlogin.core in my / directory. How can I get
this back?
