Could you clarify what you mean when you say "it never appears" and
"nor is it listed"?  Do you mean that if you get notification of
mail, and then use the command line to type "inc" and then "scan"
(or "scan unseen" or similar), that the scan listing does not show
the messages?

If the messages are not there when you "scan" from the command
line, then I'd diagnose it as some type of [n]mh problem.  If they
show up on command line scan but not in exmh it's most likely a
corrupted exmh scan cache, which can be fixed by using one of
exmh's menu entries to rescan the current folder.
