Hi. Charles Hannum and I looked at this problem for a while
and eventually he figured out that one of the Linux libraries we have
installed for emulation purposes is a buggy version. I removed that
library, instead using the same version of that library that Red Hat
(and hence Linux-Athena) use, and that fixed the problem for
maple_v5r4 and the version in the evaluate locker.
(we also discovered that the problem only showed up when Maple
tried to use a TCP X connection, as when displaying remotely or if the
DISPLAY variable is set to the hostname rather than :0.0, so people
who tried to run Maple from their X login on a NetBSD box probably
didn't run into this problem).
