For those of you who don't know, there has been a pretty severe
increase in the frequency and number of computer breakins around
campus in the past five days. I've created a new public list,
net-defense, for the purpose of discussing computer breakins and
security problems. It'll be up tomorrow; I encourage anyone who runs
a unix machine of any sort to get on it, so we can figure out exactly
what the scope of the problem is and help our fellow paranoid users
keep unwanted guests out... To this end, when the list gets up I
think it'd be good to get some summaries of recent problems out so we
know which machines have been hit, and with what, and from where, and
which subnets are probably the most vulnerable right now.
Add yourself!
blanche net-defense -a $USER
Hopefully this whole nightmare will vaguely start to settle down soon... =(
