No subject found in mail header

When i open dash windows i see:
00:51 dash: error reading bitmap /usr/athena/include/X11/bitmaps/Dash.xbm
00:51 dash: error reading bitmap Dash.xbm
in my console.
can someone take a look at how the bitmaps are installed.
or if they are installed at all ...
also
i lost a file that i was editing using vi.
when i logged on i got a mail saying:
You can recover most, if not all, of the changes
to this file using the -r option to nex or nvi:
nvi -r /afs/athena.mit.edu/user/b/d/bdrosen/Mail/draft
yet i can't seem to find nvi or nex.
