X windows and a 3-gig hard drive

Two different questions:

1. After installing X locally, and making the following two changes:
/etc/ttys : changed /etc/athena/dm ... off ... changed to ... on
kill -HUP 1
I no longer have a window manager when I log in as root. I do have
xwindows, but no window manager. The same happens when one logs in at
the athena log in screen and selects ignore customizations. Any
suggestions as to what I might have done wrong and/or what I could do to
fix this?

2. On another PC on which I am attempting to install NetBSD, there is a
3-gig hard drive. Windows95 has trouble utiliizing a 3-gig hard drive
directly, so there is a program running called E-Z Drive which makes the
3-gig look like a 2-gig and a 1-gig. I ran into trouble splitting the
primary partition into 2 partitions; fips and E-Z Drive don't get along.
I'm not particularly fond of E-Z drive. Any suggestions about other ways
to organize the hard disk?
