Both NetBSD 1.1 and NetBSD 1.2 "support" the Athena Matlab, but there
is a bug right now (which we don't understand yet) which prevents
Matlab from working with graphics on both NetBSD and some Linux
machines. (This bug didn't used to exist; I'm not sure when it was
introduced, and I'm beginning to suspect some form of binary
corruption.) If you unset your DISPLAY environment variable, you can
get Matlab to run, but you wont have graphing.
(There is a separate problem in NetBSD 1.1 which prevents it from
running some newer binaries like the Linux Netscape. That problem is
fixed in NetBSD 1.2, I'm pretty sure.)
