The RFC may state one thing.  There are MANY, MANY, non rfc compliant
programs out there....(Both ident servers and things that people create to
respond to ident requests) Always remember that.  You may want to check 
that your ident server is only returning 512 characters, but the biggest 
problem is that many programs that are written to parse the data from an 
ident response are expecting no more than 8 characters... :)
